In Abandoned in Search of Rainbows, A.K. Driggs brings her own story to life with rich and thoughtful writing. The book starts off quite powerfully, with the story of her mother and father’s experience with adopting Kim, who was abandoned as a baby. She uses wonderful detail to tell the incredible history of her parents and being ‘chosen’ by her mother. Driggs is clearly a talented storyteller, and captures the emotion, love and pain of her early years which sets up a great foundation for the rest of her story. She comes of age in the 70’s chasing dreams of being a professional musician and coming to understand relationships and her own sexuality. Driggs does a wonderful job of bringing to life big and small moments and writes a very warm and engrossing story.
